Chasity Q. Thompson receives ISBA Rabb Emison Award


INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 30, 2017) – Chasity Q. Thompson’s dedication to help promote diversity among members of the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) and the legal community were recognized at the ISBA annual awards luncheon in Indianapolis on Aug. 30, where she received the Rabb Emison Award.


Thompson is the assistant dean for the I.U. Robert H. McKinney School of Law Office of Professional Development, where she previously served as its director and associate director. Following law school, Thompson served for two years as a judicial clerk to Chief Justice Randall T. Shepard of the Indiana Supreme Court. She graduated magna cum laude from Alabama State University with degrees in English and business administration. She received her MBA from Auburn University and her J.D. from the I.U. Robert H. McKinney School of Law, where she actively participated in and chaired numerous school, legal and community functions. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Indiana University.


Thompson is an active member of the Indiana State Bar Association, where she has been recognized on numerous occasions for her contributions to the profession (representative, ABA House of Delegates; member, Leadership Development Academy Committee; past member, Board of Governors; recipient, Presidential Citation Award, 2010; recipient, Rabb Emison Award; past co-chair, ISBA Legal Education Conclave). She is also a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association (past member, board of directors; member, Diversity Job Fair Committee) and the Indiana Bar Foundation (Distinguished Fellow). She is a Stanley K. Lacy graduate. She has received several awards, including the Early Career Achievement Award from the I.U. Robert H. McKinney School of Law Alumni Association, White Cane Award (best administrator) from the I.U. McKinney students, and the Champion of Diversity Award from the Black Law Students Association and the Hispanic Law Students Association. She was also honored as one of "Indy's Best and Brightest" by Junior Achievement of Central Indiana in 2011, named to the "Forty Under 40" list by the Indianapolis Business Journal, and to the "Up and Coming" lawyer list by The Indiana Lawyer.


Thompson’s responsibilities include managing all activities of the Office of Professional Development, fostering and maintaining effective working relationships with legal employers, counseling and assisting alumni and students with job search strategies and judicial clerkship opportunities, developing and implementing professional development etiquette programming and administering the on-campus interview program. Also, she helped to establish a new course designed to assist students with practice management concepts.
