ISBA Mentorship

Build Connections, Share Knowledge, and Grow Together

Mentorship isn’t one-size-fits-all. Legal professionals at any stage of their career can benefit from having mentors, being mentors, or both.

Whether you’re seeking career guidance, exploring a new practice area, or looking for a sounding board for professional challenges, ISBA’s mentorship programs provide the flexibility to connect in ways that work for you.

For any questions or comments, please contact Rebecca Smith: rsmith@inbar.org.

Why Mentorship?

Mentorship is about more than just career advice. It’s about building relationships, sharing perspectives, and navigating the challenges of the legal profession together. ISBA Mentorship is designed to help members:

  • Expand their professional networks
  • Receive and offer guidance
  • Gain fresh perspectives
  • Find motivation and support
  • Adapt to career changes

Mentorship is a relationship between mentees and mentors who collaborate to learn, guide, reflect, question, and problem solve to attain a goal or goals. Mentorship is not limited to one mentor and one mentee. Set your goals, make connections, and take your career to the next level with ISBA Mentorship.

Who Can Participate?

Mentors are members who share their time, knowledge, and experiences to help others develop professionally and personally. You don’t have to be at the peak of your career to be a mentor—your insights and experiences can provide valuable guidance to someone else.

Mentees are those looking for guidance, support, and new perspectives to grow personally and professionally. They ask questions and take an active role in learning from others. Anyone, regardless of age, title, or experience, can be a mentee if they are open to learning and growth.

Mentor City

Mentor City is ISBA’s new mentorship platform designed to help members connect with mentors and mentees on their own terms. This self-matching system allows you to:

  • Create a profile that highlights your goals, interests, and areas of expertise.
  • Search for mentors based on practice area, career stage, or specific skills.
  • Connect and schedule meetings to build meaningful relationships that fit your needs.

If you’re looking for long-term mentorship or a short-term connection to navigate a specific challenge, Mentor City makes it easy to find the right fit.

How to Get Started

  1. Sign up and create your profile – List your areas of interest, goals, and what you hope to gain or contribute.
  2. Browse potential connections – Use search and filtering tools to find the right mentor.
  3. Make your first connection – Reach out, schedule a conversation, and start building your mentorship network.

This platform is included with your ISBA membership and is open to all members who want to grow, learn, and give back.

Mentor Match

PLEASE NOTE: To allow us to make updates, we will temporarily pause matching mentees and mentors through this program. Those who have self-matched may proceed by completing the application as well as the necessary Mentoring Agreement. If you have questions, comments, and suggestions about the Mentor Match program, please contact Rebecca Smith: rsmith@inbar.org.

The Mentor Match program is designed for a new Indiana attorney to be paired with a seasoned Indiana attorney to complete a year-long relationship that follows applied professionalism curriculum. Upon completion, the mentee will receive their applied professionalism credit (6.0 hours CLE) and the mentor will receive 12.0 hours CLE.

Matched mentors/mentees can access the application, program guides, and curriculum here
