Judge Matt Kincaid receives ISBA Civility Award

INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 30, 2017) – Hon. Matt Kincaid’s outstanding civility and professionalism in the courtroom was recognized at the Indiana State Bar Association’s annual awards luncheon in Indianapolis on Aug. 30, where he received the 2017 Civility Award. This award is sponsored by the State Bar’s Litigation Section.

A graduate of Lebanon High School (1988), DePauw University (B.A., 1992), and Loyola University of Chicago School of Law (J.D., 1997), Judge Kincaid is the presiding judge of Boone Superior Court 1. Succeeding his father Hon. Ora A. Kincaid III, Judge Kincaid was first elected in 2002 and was re-elected in 2008 and 2014.

Judge Kincaid has served with numerous judicial colleagues in Boone County, including Hon. James R. Detamore, Justice Steven H. David, Hon. Rebecca A. McClure, Hon. J. Jeffrey Edens and Hon. Bruce E. Petit, as well as Magistrate Sally E. Berish and Commissioner Mark X. Sullivan, who have all been terrific partners and exemplars of judicial temperament and ability. Bailiff Kay Cox has served Boone Superior Court and the public since 2003 and Court Reporter Amy Reinhardt since 2006; to these and others who have worked for him, Judge Kincaid attributes most of the credit for any reputation for civility he may enjoy.

He is a regular contributor and speaker at professional and judicial education programs. He is a member of the Sagamore Inn of Court and the Boone County and Indiana State bar associations. Judge Kincaid serves on the board of directors of the Judicial Conference and has contributed to several conference committees over the years.

Judge Kincaid lives in Zionsville with his wife, Molly, and their three children. He and his family are active parishioners of St. Alphonsus Liguori, participating in several ministries. In his spare time, he enjoys running, golf, writing and occasionally calling attention to himself on a community theater stage.

Founded in 1896, the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) is the single largest legal organization in the state. With nearly 12,000 members, the ISBA serves and advocates on behalf of its members, their clients and the public interest as the independent voice of the legal profession.
