Sensors have been installed in every room to detect whether people are present so that the HVAC system only conditions air where it’s needed. Located next door to the DC House, the ReNEWW House was once heated by coal and now offsets all its energy use with solar power, relying on rainfall as a water source and using waste-handling systems, such as composting toilets, to prevent household waste from going to the landfill. *The tours have a capped # and therefore, registration is required to participate.
