William H. Dazey receives Civility Award from the Indiana State Bar Association

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 29, 2015) – William H. Dazey’s outstanding civility and professionalism in the courtroom was recognized at the Indiana State Bar Association’s (ISBA) annual meeting in French Lick earlier this month, where he received the 2015 Civility Award. This award is sponsored by the ISBA Litigation Section.

Dazey is a senior assistant federal defender at the Indiana Federal Community Defender's Office, where he handles some of its most complex cases. A small-town motorcycle enthusiast, Dazey has a well-known, laid-back style that his clients and colleagues love. However, his clients and colleagues also know him as a fierce courtroom litigator. He has practiced federal criminal defense since 1978 when he started a small Indianapolis law practice. Previously, and not long after starting his firm, Dazey joined the ranks of Criminal Justice Act Panel attorneys, taking on cases by appointment to help provide defense services for clients who could not afford private attorneys.

He received his B.A. in psychology from Indiana University-Bloomington in 1974 and his J.D., summa cum laude, from the I.U. Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1978.

Founded in 1896, the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) is the single largest legal organization in the state. With more than 12,000 members, the ISBA serves and advocates on behalf of its members, their clients and the public interest as the independent voice of the legal profession. The ISBA’s office is located in downtown Indianapolis. For more information about the State Bar, visit
