Andi M. Metzel, partner at Benesch, elected vice president of Indiana State Bar Association

INDIANAPOLIS (Oct. 13, 2015) – Andi M. Metzel, Indianapolis, was elected as vice president of the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) for 2015-16 at the Association’s annual meeting in French Lick on Friday, Oct. 9. Her term will expire in October 2016, after which she will become president-elect and then president of the ISBA. As president, she will represent the single largest legal organization in the state.


Metzel is a partner at Benesch Friedlander Coplan & Aronoff LLP with a practice that spans four groups (litigation, real estate, transportation & logistics, and China). She is a part of her firm’s Women’s Initiative Committee and routinely helps to drive the firm’s business development and client relations efforts.


Metzel’s diverse practice is largely focused on complex litigation in federal and state courts, land use, construction, shareholder derivative suits, business torts, supply chain and contract disputes, class actions, product liability, trade secrets and non-compete disputes. She is involved in many aspects of development and strategic consulting for businesses seeking to invest and grow in Indiana and around the United States. Metzel strongly encourages a cooperative dialogue among government and industry leaders and is actively engaged in the ongoing effort to enable businesses to succeed in a competitive global marketplace. She received her B.A. in political science and philosophy from Franklin College in 1991; studied international relations and politics at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada, 1988-89; studied at the United Nations while attending Drew University, 1989-90; and received her J.D. from the I.U. Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1996.


Legal memberships include Indianapolis (board of directors, 2010) and Indiana State (board of governors, 2008-09; secretary, 2006-07; past co-chair, Leadership Development Academy Committee; past chair, Women in the Law Committee; ISBA delegate, ABA House, 2010-14; chair, House of Delegates, 2015) bar associations; Indianapolis Bar Foundation (board of directors 2008, 2009; development chair, 2008; Distinguished Fellow, 2007); and member,


Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission. Metzel is also a past and/or present member of the following ISBA sections and/or committees: Corporate Counsel; Employment, Labor & Benefits Law; Litigation; Improvements in the Judicial System; Legal Ethics; Land Use & Zoning; and Women in the Law.


She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1969.
