About the event

The seminar will provide an overview and discussion of the ethics and ethical issues in Post-Conviction Relief cases from the perspectives of defense counsel, prosecutors, and judges. Topics covered will include:

  • What does the journey of PCR case look like from start to finish?
  • What legal claims are available in PCR cases?
  • What ethical issues arise for prior counsel? (e.g., maintaining a former client's file, speaking with PCR counsel for the petitioner and State, testifying at a PCR hearing)
  • What can you expect at a PCR hearing?
  • How does an ineffectiveness claim relate to the attorney discipline process?
