Family-Based Immigration 101: A Brief Overview of the Process

Presented by the ISBA Pro Bono Committee

On-demand
1.0 hr. CLE

About the program

This one-hour course will provide information about family-based immigration: who qualifies both as a petitioner and as beneficiary, the filing process for a beneficiary who is in the United States, the filing process for a beneficiary who is outside the United States, and the potential pitfalls that can be involved. The course will focus on a brief overview of the regulations governing family-based immigration and will then shift to focus on a more practical demonstration of actually assembling the application packets. Finally, the course will end with an overview of the pitfalls involved with family-based immigration, namely inadmissibility issues that all attorneys must be aware of when preparing to file these kinds of applications for their clients.

This session was presented by the Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic as part of the 2022 "Talk to a Lawyer Today" prep course.
