Dementia-Informed Advocacy

Presented by the ISBA Pro Bono Committee

On-demand
1.0 hr. CLE/Ethics

About the program

Persons living with dementia need our legal help. Model Rule of Professional Conduct directs lawyers to the extent possible to maintain a normal attorney client relationship with a client with diminished capacity. This session offers insight into how dementia changes the cognition and behavior of our clients, and offers some guidance on how to accommodate the needs of our clients in a way that is dementia informed.

This session was presented as part of the 2022 "Talk to a Lawyer Today" prep course.

Presenter:

David Godfrey, JD., Director, ABA Commission on Law and Aging

"I appreciated this presentation. It seemed as much a view into a possible future as it was helpful information for relating to a client with dementia that allows an attorney to preserve the person's dignity as far is is possible."
