Individual Medical Update
Residents in Indiana enroll in the federally-facilitated exchange through The open enrollment period for 2018 is Nov. 1 – Dec. 15, 2017.

Earlier this year, Anthem and MDwise announced they will no longer be offering individual medical coverage through the exchange in 2018. A number of other carriers made the same decision for the 2016 and 2017 open enrollment periods.

For the 2018 open enrollment, there are two remaining carriers in Indiana offering individual medical coverage through the exchange: (1) CareSource and (2) Celtic/Ambetter. We understand that both carriers have filed substantial premium increases with the Indiana Department of Insurance.

Small Group Medical Update
Unfortunately, many small employers are receiving substantial premium increases on their ACA plans, too. Some employers are forced to consider benefit changes to offset the increase in premiums. We believe the above is a result of less collective buying/bargaining power for the small employers.

It seems that the Bar Association would have great bargaining power on behalf of the thousands of bar members to get a good rate on monthly premiums for a health plan. Private Companies with a lot less members have good rates.

Any plan to explore the idea of an association health plan (AHP), given the EO signed earlier this month?
