Free legal consultations on MLK Day

Indiana State Bar Association

On Monday, Jan. 20, 2025, Indiana State Bar Association members will answer questions online through Indiana Free Legal Answers, helping to clear over 300 unanswered legal inquiries. Volunteers will do their best to answer questions in the queue, covering legal issues such as:

  • Bankruptcy
  • Child support
  • Complaints against a city
  • Contract disputes
  • Divorce
  • Employment issues
  • Healthcare
  • Immigration
  • Landlord-tenant issues
  • Long-term care facilities
  • Mental health treatment
  • School law
  • Small claims
  • Social security
  • Wills and estates

Attorneys cannot assist with criminal matters.

To post a question for ISBA attorneys to answer, visit Indiana Free Legal Answers and click “Get Started.” Hoosiers who meet the eligibility requirements will then be asked to sign a user agreement and create an account. You can ask for any (non-criminal) legal advice by sharing facts about your case, and you’ll receive an email once a lawyer has responded to your question. Lawyers may ask for additional information before responding to your question—you will have the choice to provide that further information or not.

There is no guarantee that a question will be answered. If a question is not answered within 30 days, you will receive an email from the website administrator instructing you to seek assistance elsewhere.

The Clear the Queue event's goal is to address every query currently in the Indiana Free Legal Answers queue.

Find free legal consultations

County bar associations, pro bono agencies, and legal services throughout the state will offer Hoosiers free legal consultations via local hotlines, walk-in locations or virtual sessions. If your county is not listed, we encourage you to submit your legal questions through Indiana Free Legal Answers. If you’re unsure of your county, click here to look it up.

To get the most out of your free legal consultation, we recommend being prepared with your specific questions already written down. Volunteer attorneys work hard to answer every person’s questions, so the quicker you are able to ask your question, the more time your attorney will have to provide you with an answer.
