Professional enjoyment: If I can make a difference in one person's life, each year, as an attorney, then my work is done.

Your inspiration: I never wanted to be a lawyer. In my late twenties, it occurred to me that I could be a more effective advocate for others if I became a lawyer. Many years later I still believe this is true.

Why bar association involvement: The networking and mentoring available through the bar association is simply incredible. Experienced attorneys, who mentor younger lawyers, have the joy and sense of accomplishment of seeing another grow both personally and professionally. Also, much to my surprise, I have received a case referral from virtually every committee or project I have participated in through a bar association.

If not a lawyer: social worker or police officer. I was a non-fiction writer, as well as the manager of several retail stores, earlier in my career.

Fav hobbies: I am a half-maniac and love to walk half marathons and have participated in four this year. I love to lift weights. I have a second degree black belt in karate from the Adamson's Karate Studios.

Fav book or author and current reading: I recommend a 2010 book by Mark Vonnegut, the son of Kurt Vonnegut, "Just Like Someone With Mental Illness Only More So." He is a Harvard-education M.D. with bipolar disorder. I love reading books about doctors practicing medicine and the ethics involved. One of my all-time favorite books is "Complications: The Life Of a Surgeon" by Atul Gawande, published in 2003. I also love books about ethical situations and am currently reading John Quinones' book about his life and his TV series, called "What Would You Do?"

Fav vacation spot: I love visiting Austin, Texas, and absorbing the "Keep Austin Weird" vibrations. Naples, Fla. is also a wonderful place to get away, although I normally run into more Indiana residents at the grocery store while in Naples than I do while shopping in Indianapolis.

Fav food or restaurant: For Thai food: Bangkok Restaurant and Jazz Bar, downtown Indianapolis, and Thai Lanne in Avon. For sushi: Sushi Club on 10th Street in Indianapolis with "all you can eat sushi" on the weekends.

Top of my bucket list: to walk, as a pilgrim, the "El Camino De Santiago" trail, which runs through France and Spain
