Attorneys to celebrate Law Day in the classroom
The State Bar’s Young Lawyers Section is sponsoring a statewide Law Day program that matches lawyers with local schools. Law Day, held annually on May 1, is a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law. In 2016, the nation marks the 50th anniversary of perhaps the best-known U.S. Supreme Court case, Miranda v. Arizona, which will serve as the theme to which attorneys will speak about in the classroom. Law Day provides students in grades K-12 with the opportunity to learn about the Miranda Warning.

How do I participate in Law Day 2016?
To participate, register your class here. Once you're signed up, the Young Lawyers Section will match you with an attorney. If an attorney has already contacted your school directly, you are still encouraged to sign up online.

When is Law Day celebrated?

May 1 is the official date, but because this falls on a Sunday this year and due to ISTEP, you can schedule the presentation on an alternate date that works best for you and the attorney.

What should I expect?

Attorneys will be prepared to give an hourlong, age-appropriate presentation, but the length of the presentation can be altered to fit your class schedule. If you have suggestions for what works best for your class, we encourage you to communicate with the attorney visiting your classroom before your Law Day presentation.

How do I get local media to cover my Law Day presentation?

If you would like a press release about your presentation to be distributed to local media outlets, please contact Carissa Long, ISBA Director of Public Relations, at or call 800-266-2581.

Who may I contact with Law Day questions?

Sara McClammer
Chair, Young Lawyers Section Law Day Committee
