Attorneys celebrate Law Day in the classroom
The State Bar’s Young Lawyers Section is sponsoring a statewide Law Day program that matches lawyers with local schools. Law Day, held annually on May 1, is a national day set aside to celebrate the rule of law. In 2016, the nation marks the 50th anniversary of perhaps the best-known U.S. Supreme Court case, Miranda v. Arizona, which will serve as the theme to which attorneys will speak about in the classroom. Law Day provides students in grades K-12 with the opportunity to learn about the Miranda Warning.

How do I participate in Law Day 2016?
To participate, sign up at Contact a school near you directly to set up a presentation, or the Young Lawyers Section will match you with a local school. Please note: If you contact a school directly, you are still required to sign up online at

When is Law Day celebrated?

May 1 is the official date, but because this falls on a Sunday this year and due to ISTEP, you can schedule the presentation on an alternate date that works best for you and the teacher. We do recommend that you try to schedule presentations within a week (before or after) of May 1.

Are Additional Law Day resources available to aid with my presentation?

Yes! You can find age-appropriate resources about the Miranda decision on the Law Day website at No matter what age group you're presenting to, you'll find PowerPoint presentations; classroom activity ideas; suggested books, multimedia and discussion tips; and much more!

How do I get local media to cover my Law Day presentation?

If you would like a press release about your presentation to be distributed to local media outlets, please contact Carissa Long, ISBA Director of Public Relations, at or call 800-266-2581.

Who may I contact with Law Day questions?

Sara McClammer
Chair, YLS Law Day Committee
