1:00 p.m. - Happy Hour: Lawyer Happiness & Its Impact on Our Profession (1 hr Ethics requested)
2:00 p.m. Loretta Oleksy, JD, LSW, Deputy Director, JLAP

While the public perception might be that one is more likely to encounter Bigfoot or Elvis

than to find a happy lawyer, we beg to differ. This session will explore what it means to

be a happy lawyer and how our happiness impacts on our clients and our profession. We

know that depression puts lawyers at risk for ethical violations; can increasing our happiness

promote more ethical behavior? Finally, we will discuss how we can apply the science of

happiness to improve our personal and professional lives.

Persuasive and Influential Communication – A Workshop for Attorneys

5:15 p.m. (2 hrs CLE requested)
  Dean Hyers, SagePresence

Attorneys have important things to communicate, from value propositions that

promote them or their firm, to alignment messages for getting clients and

professionals on the same strategic page, to the stories told in courtrooms to

make a case and win over judge and jury. Universal story and storytelling

principles are at work in all professional communication, but most lawyers

have only an abstract grasp on them, with little clarity around how to design

and deliver information with strategic intention.

Persuasive and Influential Communication drills down into the core of

communication and presentation to unveil and practice the simple laws of

persuading and influencing people with spoken words. This workshop is led

by Dean Hyers of SagePresence, a former filmmaker who has helped

prosecutors win over juries on murder trials, trained lawyers to network, and

coached nearly $4 Billion in winning new business interviews for his

professional services clientele.
