Andi M. Metzel assumes office as State Bar president

 

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 29, 2017) – Andi M. Metzel, Indianapolis, assumed the office of president of the Indiana State Bar Association (ISBA) for 2017-18 at the Association’s annual meeting in Indianapolis. She succeeds Mitch R. Heppenheimer, South Bend, who will now serve as immediate past president of the ISBA’s 25-member Board of Governors. As president, Metzel will represent the single largest legal organization in the state.

 

Metzel is a partner at Benesch Friedlander Coplan & Aronoff LLP and focuses her practice on complex commercial and "bet the company" litigation, including shareholder and corporate governance disputes, fraud, RICO, land use, construction, shareholder derivative suits, business torts, supply chain, class actions, product liability, trade secrets and non-compete disputes. She is a part of her firm’s Women’s Initiative Committee and routinely helps to drive the firm’s business development and client relations efforts.

 

She has extensive experience negotiating resolutions in complex business, personal and transactional matters and is involved in many aspects of development and strategic consulting for businesses committed to thrive in a competitive global marketplace and seeking to invest and grow in Indiana and around the United States. Metzel received her B.A. in political science and philosophy from Franklin College in 1991; studied international relations and politics at Acadia University in Nova Scotia, Canada; studied at the United Nations while attending Drew University; and received her J.D. from the I.U. Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 1996.

 

Legal memberships include Indianapolis (board of directors, 2010) and Indiana State (board of governors, 2008-09; secretary, 2006-07; past co-chair, Leadership Development Academy Committee; past chair, Women in the Law Committee; chair, House of Delegates, 2015; ISBA delegate to ABA House, 2010-14) bar associations; Indianapolis Bar Foundation (board of directors, 2008 and 2009; development, 2008; Distinguished Fellow, 2007; Distinguished Life Fellow, 2016); Indiana Bar Foundation (Fellow, 2016); and member, Indiana Supreme Court Disciplinary Commission. She is also a past and/or present member of the following ISBA sections and/or committees: Corporate Counsel; Employment, Labor & Benefits Law; Litigation; Improvements in the Judicial System; Legal Ethics; Land Use & Zoning; and Women in the Law. Additionally, she serves on the board of directors of Girls, Inc. of Greater Indianapolis.
