Professional enjoyment: weaving together facts and law to tell a compelling story in a brief, oral argument or trial.

Your inspiration: I spent a college semester off-campus in Washington D.C. during which time I interned in the office of former Indiana 9th District U.S. Representative Lee Hamilton. My front row seat to lawmaking piqued my interest in how abstract legal concepts in legislation apply to real-world situations.

Why bar association involvement: it's an opportunity to help protect the rule of law, which is the foundation of our profession. Bar activities geared toward promoting civility, improving access to justice and elevating respect for the courts and the profession help ensure the rule of law thrives.

If not a lawyer: astronomy. I grew up on a farm that has been in my family for almost 200 years. With the aid of a telescope, the dark rural Southern Indiana sky was a window to the universe.

Fav hobbies: With four children from ages six to 11, "my" hobbies are mostly youth sporting events - wrestling, soccer and football, plus trips to Holiday World, board games and reading to the kids in the evening. Fav book or author and current reading: I'm currently reading, with my 11-year-old twin girls, The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead, omitting some of the more violent parts. Fav vacation spot: St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. Fav food or restaurant: rib-eye steak grilled on my Weber kettle grill over lump hardwood charcoal and hickory wood chips, topped with crumbled blue cheese, and served with pan-fried potatoes, lemon butter asparagus and a beer. That's Saturday night at our house. Top of my bucket list: sailing the British Virgin Islands.
