On-Demand

3.0 hrs. CLE/1.0 hr. Ethics/1.0 CME

About the bundle

Need to get some last minute CLE credit? Or are you trying to get a jump on your 2024 CLE requirements? Either way, you're in luck! This bundle incudes 3.0 hours CLE, including 1.0 hr. Ethics credit and 1.0 hr. CME (mediator credit), available in one convenient package.

Courses in the bundle:

  • ChatGPT: What Is It, and What Are the Ethical Implications? (1.0 CLE/Ethics)
    Have you been curious about ChatGPT and if it can help you in your legal practice?  If so, this is the seminar for you.  We will discuss what exactly ChatGPT is and how to access and use it.  We will discuss the positive aspects and negative aspects of ChatGPT.  We will also discuss the ethical implications for attorneys, particularly Rules 1.1, 1.4, 1.6, 5.1, 5.3 and 8.4.  By the end of the seminar, you will learn how to use (or not use) ChatGPT in your legal practice, and how to stay out of ethical trouble.

  • Mediation in Employment Law Cases (1.0 CLE/CME)
    Mediation through the services of a registered civil mediator with experience in employment law issues and litigation can be a very efficient and effective method for resolving employment law disputes, both prior to and subsequent to the commencement of litigation. In this seminar, we will present all aspects and best practices of the mediation process from the standpoint of all parties involved, including Plaintiffs, Defendants and the mediator. The issues and concerns that often arise in the settlement of employment law cases will be discussed, as well as the mediation process in general.

  • Dementia-Informed Advocacy (1.0 CLE)
    Persons living with dementia need our legal help. Model Rule of Professional Conduct directs lawyers to the extent possible to maintain a normal attorney client relationship with a client with diminished capacity. This session offers insight into how dementia changes the cognition and behavior of our clients, and offers some guidance on how to accommodate the needs of our clients in a way that is dementia informed.

Paralegal testimonials from last year’s Symposium:

  • "I can't say enough about ISBA's Paralegal Symposium! Not only can you obtain ALL of your CLE/Ethics credits for the year in two half-day sessions, but you get to hear and connect with the presenters and other paralegals around the state. It is a win/win!"
  • "The ISBA Paralegal Symposium is hands down the best CLE program for Indiana paralegals. It combines great speakers, excellent topics and is super affordable."
  • "Year after year this program offers speakers who present material relevant to what we, as paralegals, deal with on a day-to-day basis.  These individuals make their presentations fun, interactive, and interesting. One couldn't ask for a better option to obtain CLE hours and/or interact with a group of people who understand your work-life!"
  • "Finally! A program that is geared towards paralegals and the tasks that we perform. Having speakers give presentations on programs and situations that we use everyday, all day was so beneficial. Usually we are hearing information that attorneys need and use, but then modified to include us. Not this program, the focus was all about paralegals!"
  • "I have been a paralegal with my current firm for over 24 years, and I've worked in the legal profession for almost 35 years, and each year I find tidbits of information from the paralegal symposium that I can utilize to help me do my job better or more efficiently or I end up with little 'takeaways' that remind me to take the time to look at things from a different angle or look outside the box and try something a different way."

The ISBA Solo & Small Firm Conference is strategically designed to be a welcoming environment for its attendees. It offers structured and unstructured connection opportunities. Attendees often report appreciating the opportunity to spend time with other attorneys who just "get" the challenges that accompany a solo or small firm practice.

If you are a first-time conference attendee (or even if you have attended before), you are welcome to contact Ashley Higgins, ISBA Director of Meetings & Events, to be connected with a conference veteran before the conference.

Additionally, if you are a conference veteran and would like to serve as a buddy to one of our first time attendees or law students, please reach out to Ashley!

About the event

Speaker: Claude DuCloux, Attorney at Law

You will learn the mental processes which allow you to endure the setbacks in life and practice, and come back stronger than ever. Claude will discuss attitude, mental balance, emotional intelligence, and strategies to help you when you’re feeling overwhelmed to help you lead a better work life balance.

This session will cover the following:

  • Reviewing the statistics on Attorney Depression, Problematic Drinking, Stress and Mental Health; Lawyer Satisfaction over the years;
  • Signs to look for in yourself and others;
  • The Development of the Military’s MRT Program to address PTSD;
  • Core competencies addressed by Master Resilience Program;
  • Defining Resilience and Mental Balance;
  • Adjusting Daily Attitudes in practice;
  • Keeping a Positive Daily Journal of good events;
