The Appellate Advocate
Newsletter
The newsletter of the Appellate Practice Section,
The Appellate Advocate, is currently
being published quarterly. The editor, Nana Quay-Smith
nsmith@binghammchale.com
welcomes members to contribute articles and information. Section
members receive the mailings of the newsletter as a member
benefit.
Public Service Information
The Appellate Practice Section provides the
"2001 Indiana Appellate Practice Manual"
free to section members or $20.00
for non-members. The manual is available through the ISBA
office at isbaadmin@inbar.org
or by calling 317-639-5465.
Section Purpose
The purpose of the section shall be to bring
together with furtherance of their mutual interests such members
of the Indiana State Bar Association as are interested in
the problems of Appellate Lawyers and Judges and other branches
of the law relating to appellate practice and procedure, and
also:
(a) to bring together for mutual helpfulness the members of
the Indiana State Bar Association who are primarily interested
in appellate work and the problems associated therewith,
(b) to uphold the dignity and standing of Appellate Lawyers
and Judges and the honor and reputation of the members of
this Association,
(c) to advance the science of jurisprudence,
(d) to promote administration of justice by simplifying and
expediting procedure, where appropriate,
(e) to clarify and advance the substance of law,
(f) to aid and encourage continuing legal education in the
area of appellate practice,
(g) to encourage cordiality among all members,
(h) to protect the rights and interest of the members, as
well as those of the litigants,
( i ) to promote their general welfare, and
( j ) to foster and encourage a wholesome respect for the
court and all lawyers.
Section Bylaws
Officers and Council
The Chair, Chair-Elect, Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer
hold their positions for a one-year term commencing at the
Annual Meeting held during the ISBA Annual Meeting during
the fall.
The Council consist of two (2) members of the
Section from each of the Indiana Court of Appeals Districts
1,2 and 3, who serve staggered terms.
