The I.U. Maurer School of Law in Bloomington hosts an annual appellate advocacy competition – the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition. The competition allows participants to develop oral and written advocacy skills. While participation in the competition is essential for those students interested in pursuing careers in litigation, the Moot Court Board encourages all 2Ls (and 3L dual-degree students or those who have studied abroad) to participate in the competition and gain exposure to the collaborative aspect of law by working with a partner during the fall rounds.

Fall rounds

• All competitors draft an appellate brief with a partner; and

• Argue individually during at least three rounds of oral argument

We invite you to judge the fall rounds of the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition. This year’s competition is scheduled to begin the evening of Friday, Oct. 5, and will run Oct. 5-11, Oct. 23-27, and Oct. 30 through Nov. 3.  Weekday rounds are from 6-9 p.m., with Saturday arguments at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, will include arguments at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Each round normally lasts an hour, including time for judges to provide feedback to competitors.

If you would like to accept our invitation to judge, please contact the executive judge coordinators at judges@indiana.edu. You may find additional information about the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition at http://www.law.indiana.edu/students/competitions/mootcourt/index.shtml.
