In celebration of one of the nation’s best known presidents and in homage to his life traveling a city-to-city circuit providing legal help, the Indiana State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Section offers “Why Lincoln Was a Lawyer,” a community outreach program that matches area lawyers with K-8 classrooms statewide and provides a one-hour presentation about Lincoln’s life, career and the impact he made on this nation.

Visit
www.whylincolnwasalawyer.com to sign up and to learn more about this classroom initiative described by teachers and lawyers alike as a remarkable learning opportunity.

Attorneys speaking in elementary classrooms will receive a copy of “Abraham Lincoln: Lawyer, Leader, Legend” (DK Biography) by Justine Fontes or “Abraham Lincoln” (DK Biography) by Tanya Lee Stone to read and use during their presentations and then donate to the classroom library. Attorneys speaking in middle school classrooms will receive baller band bracelets to give to each student in their classroom.

Also available for attorneys and teachers to use in the classroom are free lesson plans to help the students connect Lincoln to the ideas of citizenship and the law created by the Indiana Supreme Court. Click here to access these free resources!

Watch history come alive across the state. Hundreds of Hoosier schools have participated in learning more about “Honest Abe” and his childhood growing up in southern Indiana since the program launched in 2009.
