Award criteria
Nominees for the Randall T. Shepard Award may be judicial appointees, plan administrators, commission members, individuals, firms, corporate legal departments and all others either providing legal services full-time, part-time or on a voluntary basis to the poor. The recipient of the Award will be selected based on fulfillment of one of more of the following criteria:

1. Demonstrated dedication to the development and delivery of legal services to the poor of Indiana;

2. Contributed significant work toward developing innovative approaches to delivery of volunteer legal services in one of the twelve pro bono districts;

3. Participated in activities which resulted in satisfying previously unmet legal needs or in extending legal services to underserved segments of the population.

Nomination guidelines
A complete nomination package should be prepared and submitted to the Indiana Pro Bono Commission office by July 31 and include the following information:

1. Nominee and nominator – names, addresses, firm/company, telephone numbers and email addresses

2. Nominee's résumé

3. Nomination narrative – First, identify which of the three criteria the nominee has met. Then, explain how the nominee meets those criteria. Specify the nature of the pro bono contribution and identify those who have benefited. Whenever possible, provide specific documentation or other materials which demonstrate the nominee's pro bono contribution, including articles, brochures and other documentation, and no more than three names, telephone numbers and addresses of others who, if asked, could provide additional information.

4. Letters of support – Letters of support from other individuals and/or organizations that are aware of the nominee's pro bono contribution may be included.

Selection process
Only nominations received by the deadline date will be considered by the Indiana Pro Bono Commission Shepard Award Committee. The committee will review the nomination, select the award recipient, and notify the successful nominee and nominators in September. The actual presentation of the award will take place during the Indiana Pro Bono Commission's Randall T. Shepard Award Celebration.
